Sitters and companions provide support, comfort and reassurance to patients and clients and as a result, they must demonstrate a mature, responsible, and compassionate nature. Sitters are to be attentive and observe their patient at all times. There are no physical demands while working as a sitter as this position is STRICTLY hands-off work. If the services are being provided in an institution, sitters may (on the direction of the nurse) assist patients to walk or eat. If the patient likes to pace or walk, it is expected of the sitter to do the same. Sitters ARE NOT expected to make beds, bathe, or provide any personal care to patients.
